Let's go Exploring!

So one of the things we like to do in our new camping places is to explore. There are A LOT of waterfalls around here, and we thought we'd start with 3. We only saw one. But that's okay. Tomorrow we might see 2 more.

The first one is called Issaqueena Falls. Here is the legend associated with it.

In case you can't read it, there was an Indian maiden who fell in love with a white man. When she found out there was to be an Indian raid on his village, she rode on horseback to warn him. She named all of these landmarks along the way on her ride. Eventually she married him.

Near the falls is "The Tunnel That Leads To Nowhere....." Actually, it is an unfinished railroad tunnel of the Blue Ridge Railway.

So there is a raised path in the middle and dripping water all along it. Its only inhabitants are bats. No thank you. I didn't want to breathe the mold or disturb the bats. So I just took the picture from the entrance. 

Today, we stopped to have the oil changed at an ExpressLube in Walhalla, SC (the closest "big" city to our campsite). We Googled them, and they got great reviews. We walked in, and I just knew we were in a great place:  bible verses, and a Clemson plaque in the back! And to hear him talk, I tell you, SC people have a softer drawl than NC people. Can't wait till we get further south and compare to Mississippi, Alabama, and Louisiana (can't wait to hear that Creole)! He did us a great service, even vacuumed the floor mats! No wonder they earned this award!

Then we went to celebrate later at Carolina Pizza with pizza and beer, with these wonderful mugs:

It says, "Tis the season to be jolly."  It's a little low because I sipped some before I took the picture. I agree they should be filled with something alcoholic, but always drink responsibly! And finally, Gary ran into Sasquatch's cousin, who is ready for the holidays. They are now friends on Facebook, too.

South of the Border.......And I Like It!

Hi All!

It has been a looonnng time since I've written. Practically the month of November. We have been boon-docking at the Mother Ship (aka, my mother's house) because we found an unknown water leak. So we washed the trailer down and even took a toothbrush to it (she has NEVER looked that clean on the outside since leaving the factory!) and stripped the caulking and re-caulked it. They say you should do it every 8-10 years. Well, it's been over 12. So it was due. But we didn't have a leak until we took it to (insert dealer's name here) in NC for some upgrades and caulking on the roof. Well, if you want it done right, do it yourself.

Camp Mother Ship was very accommodating, though. We had free laundry services, free WiFi, free DirecTV/satellite, and she even got me hooked on some word puzzle apps (I'll catch up to you yet!). But while we were there, Trailer Park Chef (aka Gary), stocked her freezer with chicken soup, goulash, lasagna, beef stew, chili, cabbage soup, and for Thanksgiving we fixed a divine seafood feast whose aroma still lingers on (lol!). But we thank her so much for the accommodations and great company. We will be back in two weeks after we explore Gary's Motherland.

Here are some things I did to pass the time while the trailer was undergoing repairs:

Knitted two baby blankets and a scarf. The blankets are for two expectant mothers at The Creek (SHH! The blue one is a surprise. She doesn't know she's getting it). The scarf is for a hard-working lady at Chick-Fil-A in Greenbrier, Ms. Renae. SweetT, you should recognize it, yours is purple and glittery, if you still have it 😊

Went "Old School" with traditions and treats:  chicken soup, haystacks, almond bark, and candy-coated pretzels. They are a holiday tradition at our house (except the chicken soup), but they are now gluten-free. The Boss can whip up a lemon meringue pie and peel potatoes like it was yesterday. She's still a young whipper-snapper, so don't get in her way!

This is The Boss. Don't let her cute face fool you. She can still bend you over her knee and spank you if need be (see, I told you---Old School)!

And we sold this beauty. I got up close and personal because it took me two days to detail it. I know the picture is not that great, but I washed it, clay-barred it, waxed it, polished it, and then I did the inside. Not to mention the engine was done, too. I worked on it for a total of 8 hours over 2 days. But it sold quick, which is what we wanted, and now we just have our house on wheels and the truck it takes to haul it. Do I miss having my own wheels? Nah. I'm glad it's gone. Too much to think about. Time to cut the cord!

G is officially retired!!!!

These two happened on the same day (happens every few years); G's birthday and the holiday fall on the same day! 

So now we are hanging out here in this park for about a week. We plan to go check out some of the local sites and all. Not many people here in the park (can't imagine why??). Ya'll come back 😉

So today is Halloween, and some of you like it, and some of you don't. I particularly don't like all the scary, gory, ugly. I like the funny, cutesy, humorous part of it. So I thought I'd share what I found and compile it with MY take on Halloween.

Another Joy Ride....

We took another ride today on a "twisty, windy, mountain road" through Mt. Pisgah National Forest. Unfortunately, unlike the Blue Ridge Parkway, there are hardly any pull-outs with beautiful mountain views. The trees are in the way, ding-dangit! But, I did manage to grab some good shots along the way.

The leaves are finally showing their "true colors," as it were. Nice reds, too!

Sorry about the glare from the window. But this is a set of maples we pass on Highway 19 (the main drag) and they look so lovely, but they move so quickly, I just have to jump in their way and take their picture, lol!

In Pisgah there are some nice waterfalls. This one was taken from the side of the road. My driver was kind and stopped. 

Not sure what it's called, but I'd call it "Streaming Falls." And then there's this one. It's called "Looking Glass Falls." I guess that's where Alice went through with the White Rabbit??!

Couple more mountain views from the drive back, since I couldn't get them for you from the "twisty, windy, mountain road." Ya'll come back! 😉

Alumilina Aluminati

Hi all! So we are outside of Waynesville, NC, on the other side of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

And on our first day here, there were at least 2 other Airstreams here. They were on their way to Marion, NC (over 1 hour away on I-40) for a gathering of Airstreams called Alumilina.

 It's the 2nd largest gathering of Airstreams outside of the International gathering club. They had over 300 coming. This is how many we saw.

 They come from as far away as New Hampshire and Massachusetts on the East Coast and California on the West Coast. There are new ones, vintage ones, and in-betweens. It was really cool to walk around and see them. And for our friends at twopeasandthepod.blog, this one's for you! Alas, it's not on the side of a Tommy Bahama, but nonetheless.....

And I found out pink flamingos are often associated with Airstreams. That's why you see them at a lot of people's trailers. I always thought it was a Florida thing, but it's an Airstream thing. We are not getting one, we'll just look at other people's flamingos.

We had dinner with this fabulous couple who showed us around and told us neat places to visit in Waynesville. He is also a Master Arborist, so he was telling us about the trees while we were riding along to and from dinner. Neat-o! I also happen to be related to them! HINT:  It's my uncle and aunt 😁

Since tomorrow is expected to be sunny, we will take a ride around and look at the new changes in the foliage. Hopefully there are some more color changes. The reds are really poppin'! Ya'll come back! 😉
